Faith

None is faithless,
if the have faith in themselves.

Bhai Nand Lal Ji
1633-1713

The first step towards faith is to have faith in yourself. This is the stepping stone to realising true faith, peace and contentment. Believe in yourself. A lack of self-convictioncan only lead to inner frustration.

Ardaas is an integral part of the Sikh Dharam.  It is a prayer offered by Sikhs before or after any function, activity or occasion.  The Ardaas falls into four parts:

Firstly it invokes the blessings of God and the Gurus.

It then recounts the achievements of the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the events of Sikh history, particularly the sacrifices made by Sikhs in the defence of their faith and Gurudwara’s.

The reciter then mentions the purpose and the occasion for offering the prayer.  He then invokes the Lord for blessings, peace, progress, health and welfare of an individual or family.

Finally a humble appeal is made: O Lord, save us from lust, wrath, greed, conceit and undue attachment.  Let there be peace all round. O Father, grant success to everyone in his/her efforts.  Bestow the bliss of the Holy Name on us all and keep us in the company of persons devoted to thyself.  May your Holy Name be ever in ascendance and may peace and progress bless entire mankind.  O God, give us humility in behaviour and nobility in thought.  Forgive us for any short comings and acts of omission and commission.

While offering Ardaas, Sikhs seek God’s blessings not only for one individual, or the whole community but for entire mankind and for the good of each and every creature in the world, it is not merely for material gains but also for spiritual uplift and excellance of conduct in worldy affairs.
